Friday’s Five

It’s our final weekend in NYC, the big move is on Monday! And being the procrastinator that I am, I’ve been doing a lot of pinning instead of packing this week (oops!). Good thing my mom is coming tomorrow to help speed up the process.

Anyway, I wanted to share five things I’m loving this week because sometimes you just need a mental break.

Pipe Cleaners as Drink Charms – Of course this is posted on Real Simple. It’s such a simple and cheap idea, I’m so surprised this is the first time I’m even seeing it! I will definitely be picking up a package of pipe cleaners the next time I see some.

I heart bubbly!

Turquoise Side Table – Our new bedroom is MUCH smaller than our current bedroom and this compact side table is great inspiration for a small piece with lots of storage. I also love the bright pop of color on this more traditional piece. There’s no safer place to be adventurous than in the bedroom, right? *wink*

Such a girly & romantic room

Boston Cream Pie Cupcakes – These look delicious and might just have to be the inaugural baked good in our new kitchen.

Should I wait until after the 2 weddings I’m in are over in a few weeks? Maybe not…

T. Swift’s Little Yellow Dress – I am not the biggest Taylor Swift fan, especially after her antics at the Kennedy wedding last weekend. (Can you believe she had the kahunas to crash a Kennedy wedding? And the text message/email RSVP she let her boyfriend send? I wonder what next big hit of hers will come out that event! “Kicked to the Curb by the Kennedy’s” could be kind of catchy) Unfortunately, I happen to LOVE this dress she was recently photographed in, so here she is, featured in the first Friday Five.

Sweet and sunny number that makes her look so innocent!

And finally, my favorite thing from this week – My Future Child. I can’t stop looking at this picture and believing that I’m looking into the face of my future kid. I love this baby and her adorable and hilarious expression! Hope she will put a smile on your face as she has on mine all week.

This little baby has found a way to make picture taking fun again!

Anyone else see some ideas that are so simple you can’t believe you hadn’t thought of it earlier? Thoughts on Tay Tay’s antics, would you have kicked her out too? Or anyone else thinking they might have some bubbly while they’re packing this weekend and start making faces like babycakes here? No, just me? Alright then, this just got awkward…
Until next time, love from the mr. & me!

3 Weeks!

OMG 3 weeks from today, we’re moving out of our first home together! Well, technically my parents and I will be moving the mr. and me out since mr. smartypants has orientation all week. It’s ok, we won’t hold it against him 🙂

I can’t believe we’ve been in our apartment for only 3 years, it feels like we’ve been there forever. So many big moments of our lives have happened while we called this place home. We got engaged only a month and half before we moved in and were married under a year and half later. This apartment has seen A LOT of wedding planning!

I started my “big girl” job while we lived here. We’ve been newlyweds here. We’ve had some rough times but we’ve had countless good times. We brought our little Charlie man home here on our first wedding anniversary.

We loved our apartment so much we convinced 2 of our best friends to move into the building (and being in only the first of their two year lease, no, they are not happy that we are moving out) I’m sorry, we’ll miss you guys!

We’ve experienced the HORRORS of having cockroaches fall from the ceiling, crawling in and out of the washing machine, stepping on them barefoot, oh I could list a few more examples but it’s giving me the heebee jeebies already! (I will never live somewhere that is hot and humid all year round, but I think we already knew that!)

We’ve also experienced the joys of truly learning to live on our own yet live with each other. The mr. is excellent sport when it comes to sharing the bathroom in the morning, and I’m working on being more relaxed when it comes to things like socks on the floor. You would think after having been together for 10 years already, there wouldn’t be much to learn about being together, but we have learned so much about each other and about ourselves in these last 3 years.

I will be sad to see this apartment go, and it will always hold a very special place in my heart. I will just have to keep thinking about the cockroaches as we continue packing up and move out to keep myself from getting too emotional over the whole thing.

I want to make sure I preserve something from our first home and I think this key frame project by Young House Love is the perfect way to do it. Now I just have to remember to hang onto my key!

YHL Key Frame

More craziness to come though. I’m traveling for work 2 of the next 3 weeks (eek!) and just 4 and 6 weeks until 4 of our friends get married! We’re in both of the weddings (we’re postponing moving into the new apartment by a day or 2 to be in the first one!). And, being me, I’ve procrastinated packing and really only have a few full days left to pack… well I just have to keep reminding myself it will all work out just fine, it always does. I just have to keep thinking positive thoughts and not let the stress get to me. I changed my phone background to a quote from Roald Dahl – “If you have good thoughts, they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” I’m not as concerned about looking lovely but I plan on thinking so many good thoughts, they will be shining out of my a**!!
Until next time, love (and craziness!) from the mr. and me!

A Tip for Tuesday

Last week, my sister told me about this great trick (that she saw on pinterest, obviously!) to make your mascara last longer. When your mascara gets dried out and your lashes are getting evermore attractively clumpy, add a few drops of regular saline solution, and shake and bake baby! No, wait, don’t bake it, that will dry it out more, just shake and stir the mascara until it’s a nice smooth texture again!

(Sorry to the person with the original idea, I couldn’t find the original link, even after a bit of googling.)

The pin says this can be done up to 2-3 times, but I would be wary of too much bacteria growing in the mascara if you keep it more than 3-6 months, depending on how often you apply. If you’re like me and wear multiple coats every day, you probably shouldn’t stretch it longer than 3 months.

Anyone else have some good money saving makeup tips?

Until next time, love from the mr. and me!

The Song Her Heart Sings

I realize I’m the only person that reads this blog right now, since there isn’t much to read. But while I’m working on new posts, and on the off chance anyone else does come across this little ol’ blog, I wanted to share a post by Ashley Ann Campbell at Under the Sycamore.

Ashley Ann’s blog is the first blog I started following on a daily basis. She is such an inspiration in so many ways, from her breathtaking photography to her doable DIY crafts to her unending love for her family. Her most recent endeavor has to do with expanding her beautiful family. She and her husband are in the process of adopting a baby girl from China, whose middle name will be Song. They are in the very last steps of waiting for approval before they can hop on a plane and go get their daughter. I can’t imagine the agony of the wait they are going through, but instead of dwelling on anything “selfish,” Ashley Ann is using this opportunity to raise money for the orphanage where her daughter is living, and has lived her whole life.

Click here to read about Ashley Ann’s mission to raise money for a new incubator for her daughter’s orphanage.

And, if you have a few minutes, visit Love Without Boundaries, the organization helping Ashely Ann with this project.

I know in my heart that someday I will be in Ashely Ann’s position, waiting to go get my daughter, which is why her story touches me so deeply. Please take a minute to read and share the Campbells’ story!

Until next time, love from the mr. & me!

Let’s Try This Again…

So that “regular” posting thing never picked up… oops…

Let’s start over, new name and new design! I like this much better. I chose the name R Love, R Life since, well, we are the R’s! And this blog is going to be “R” place to share what’s going on in “R” life as we start to shake things up a bit! And yes, I will try to stop saying “our” with an “R” after this sentence… no promises though.

This will be a short one, but I just wanted to pop back in while I was feeling inspired to post. Our great friends are getting married this weekend after a TWO year long engagement! It feels like we have been waiting for this day FOREVER and can’t believe it’s finally here. They are the sweetest couple and we couldn’t be happier for them!

Congratulations, Ed & Alissa!

I’ll be back soon with more posts, promise!

Until then, love from the mr. & me!
